Chennai, Flights were disrupted for several hours at Chennai Airport on Sunday morning. Poor visibility due to fog was the main reason. At least three flights arriving in Chennai were diverted to nearby airports, causing significant distress to passengers.
Flights were diverted
Providing further details, officials said that moderate to dense fog enveloped Chennai Airport early Sunday morning, causing minor delays for some flights. Some flights were also diverted.
Visibility reduced to 150 meters in the morning
An official said, "Moderate to dense fog enveloped Chennai Meenambakkam Airport early this morning. Visibility was approximately 1500 meters at 5:30 am IST, which dropped to 350 meters by 6:30 am, and further reduced to 150 meters by around 7:30 am due to the fog."
Flights diverted to Tiruchirapalli
He said visibility was expected to improve later. Two flights from Kuala Lumpur and Hyderabad were diverted to Tiruchirapalli, while another private flight returned to Bengaluru.
